Come Enjoy The Shepherds' Play, Wednesday, December 19th at 7pm in the Eurythmy room.  All are welcome.

Some years, teachers and community members perform the Oberufer Shepherds’ Play for the community.  Although we are not able to perform it ourselves this year, we are blessed that the youth group of the Christian Community in College Park will bring their production to our school!  Waldorf schools all over the world offer this play at this time of year.  Both the playful slapstick comedy and the child-like reverence of the shepherds really delight children of all ages, and speak to a quest for light in the dark days of winter.  

Villagers of Oberufer, Austria, performed this play for hundreds of years.  From medieval times, roles were passed down from father to son.  In our time, when the December mood has become a push to aquire more and more material things, plays like this can remind us of the true treasure of our human culture:  love and uprightness.  Though the play depicts a story from the bible, its images speak to anyone who brings an open heart and mind.  As the mother and father in the story seek a dwelling where their child can be born, we can hope that viewers of the play will create such a space in their hearts.
