The Miracle Worker

Every year, the 8th grade class at the Waldorf School of Baltimore performs a full-length play. It is the culmination of plays for the class. What makes it different from the plays performed in the lower grades is the significant time, planning, and teamwork needed to pull it off.

The eighth grade is a year of developing and asserting independence. Their play is selected for themes appropriate to their emotional development and to complement the year’s curriculum. They have one Main Lesson block (about one month) to prepare. During this time, students spend about 2 hours every day rehearsing scenes, building sets, memorizing their lines and blocking. For the two days before the premiere performance, the class spends the entire school day perfecting their work.

There is generally one weekday afternoon performance for the student body. There are additional weekend afternoon and evening performances for friends and family. The students generally celebrate their achievement with a cast party once the final curtain falls. The 8th grade play is an extremely rewarding and fun experience that many students look forward to throughout their entire Waldorf career. Join us for this year's play "The Miracle Worker" by the eighth grade. Also featuring poster art by eighth graders, Rachael Stetina and Emma Arnold.
