Festivals

At the Waldorf School of Baltimore, festivals and seasonal events play a central role in how we experience the year, our curriculum, and our community.

These celebrations create a living, rhythmical calendar that connects us to nature's cycles and fosters a deeper sense of community and belonging. For some students, festivals provide a chance to see their own cultural heritage and traditions reflected within the school, while for others, it’s an opportunity to experience the joy, wonder, and reverence of celebrations they may not observe at home.

We believe it’s important to celebrate and learn from traditions not only within our own community but also from cultures around the world. Over the years, many cherished celebrations have been brought to us by our families, and we warmly encourage others to share their cultural practices with us through their child’s classroom or with our festivals committee. This diversity enriches our school’s spirit and helps us embrace a more global perspective on the seasons and their meaning.

Our celebrations are rooted in universal values found across religions and philosophies, yet they remain independent of any specific creed. As a non-sectarian school, we welcome families to share aspects of their cultural traditions with their Class Teacher allowing us to celebrate and learn from the rich diversity that makes our community so special. Together, we create a vibrant, inclusive environment where the spirit of the seasons is felt by all.

Celebrating festivals can bring us consciously to what we all experience instinctively in our daily lives, the changing cycles of the seasons and of life itself. Through various festivals and rituals we acknowledge and celebrate our connection to and our responsibility toward each other and the world.
