Join Waldorf School of Baltimore for a series of weekend workshops. The Sunday, March 29 workshop sculpting in clay with Edna Emmet

Waldorf Weekend Workshop: Sculpting in Clay

Instructed by Edna Emmet, retired WSB Art & Woodworking Teacher.

Participants will experience the clay sculpting process as it is introduced in the 4th grade Waldorf curriculum. Working from the principle of “sculpting from the whole,” they will begin with simple, unified forms and gradually move toward greater division, complexity, and detail, guided by careful observation and imitation of nature’s creations. Over the course of two hours, participants will sculpt forms from the animal kingdom—birds and mammals—as well as the human form. Through this hands-on artistic work, participants will gain a glimpse into the holistic Waldorf approach, where art and the study of the animal kingdom are deeply integrated to support learning, observation, and understanding.

Community Speaker Series with David Barham

Join David Barham, Executive Director, Center for Anthroposophy, for the second in our spring speaker series: ““Dancing in the Whirlwind: Waldorf Education in a Time of Technology and Change."

In an age of artificial intelligence, constant connectivity, and social upheaval, what qualities will help our children truly thrive? Waldorf education’s focus on creativity, human connection, resilience, and inner freedom offers an answer.

This lecture will explore how head, heart, and hands learning prepares children not just for careers, but for a meaningful, purpose-filled life—and how education can serve as a path of renewal for individuals, communities, and society as a whole.

Morning Circle at Waldorf School of Baltimore is where learning wakes up. Poems are spoken together, sometimes acted out hand movements, and usually, a fair share of humor. Songs shift with the seasons and with whatever the class is studying. Numbers find a beat. Words invite gesture. Everything feels connected.
