Self Portrait Project — Sara W.: A Handwritten Book

My project is a handwritten book, with a cover that I also made. I chose this project because ever since I was young, I’ve had these characters in mind. They were a way for younger me to entertain and express myself in a healthy way. It started out as a sort of make-believe game I would play, but once I grew out of that, it became a story I would write in my head. It really changed a lot the more I grew and I’m excited to see how it grows in the future. I originally was going to do an animation for my project and then changed it to a comic afterward. But I felt like it wasn’t a representation of myself. I decided to format my project as a book because I always imagined it as one and I decided to write it by hand because it felt more personal and custom to me. My goal for this project was to fill up every page of this notebook with as much of the story as I could. I obviously knew I couldn’t tell the story in such a short amount of time, with such a small book, so I aimed to complete the plot of what I imagined would be the first book in my head. I have to say it was very difficult to write an entire book as I had some complications with my first idea for my project, but it gave me a lot of motivation to get a first draft out there on paper.
