We are two weeks away from the start of our Winter Parent and Child classes!
In an ocean of early childhood education options, what sets our sessions apart is our comfort and purposeful use of managed, experiential risk (both indoor and outdoor) with our youngest students.

Congrats to Liam Otero of the Sante Fe Waldorf School on signing with Concordia University Chicago's NCAA Division III basketball team! We trust your Waldorf education, especially your Eurythmy classes, helped you cultivate the skills and confidence to make this happen.
"Last season, Otero helped lead Waldorf to the Class 1A State Tournament and is trying to repeat the achievement in Class 2A with the Desert Academy/Santa Fe Waldorf Wild Wolves." http://ow.ly/hdER30n6b1O

This holiday season resist the urge to compare and contrast your child to others, especially on temporary markers such as grades and test scores.
"Yes, straight-A students master cramming information and regurgitating it on exams. But career success is rarely about finding the right solution to a problem — it’s more about finding the right problem to solve... If you’re willing to tolerate the occasional B, you can learn... You gain experience coping with failures and setbacks, which builds resilience." http://ow.ly/GjoH30mWThW

Yesterday we posted a link to handwork templates as a means of entertaining your children, yes, but also as a way to keep their math skills sharp.

The importance of having a warm, welcoming, and nourishing early childhood experience cannot be overstated. "In the first three years of life, 80% of a child's brain development occurs. This development is fed through consistent verbal and nonverbal interactions between parents and children."

The holiday season can be a joyous time spent with family and friends. However, sometimes the gift zigs instead of zags, the promised turn to play the new game does not come, and the car trip home is filled with congestion and detours.

'Tis the season for end-of-year holiday preparation. Instead of finding shortcuts and distractions to keep children from getting "underfoot", let us design meaningful ways for them to contribute.

Interesting weekend read on the presence and purpose of parents in the school environment, specifically at mealtime.
"The grade-school lunchroom has long acted as a microcosm of social life. It’s where kids choose whom to sit with, develop friendships, and resolve conflicts. And lunch is one of the few less-supervised periods in most kids’ school days. Over the past several years, however, some school cafeterias have become invaded by a new group: parents." http://ow.ly/Z8Jd30mQsc7
